ABOUT JOBS
Are there really lots of teaching jobs out there?
Yes, there really are! English has fast become the language of international communication – in business, travel, academia and much more. With this, the demand for English as a second language has soared in many countries around the world.
As one of the world's most popular tourist destinations, New York City also attracts large numbers of ESL students to study English in what is considered one of the most exciting cities in the world. As such, the possibilities for ESL teachers are extensive. New York City is a large hub for language centers and therefore CELTA-qualified teachers have worked in the city's community colleges, private-language schools, business schools and non-profit organizations who work to aid the growing immigrant population. At present, there are over 200 private language schools in the city, providing work in an industry that has grown consistently over the last decade and is expected to continue its rapid growth. And with the CELTA being the most-widely accepted qualification at these schools (and, at some schools, the only accepted qualification) taking the CELTA at Teaching House is the first step to gaining access to these jobs.
Despite the extremely high demand for English language instruction around the world, not all English language students are able to come to the US to study. Because of this, every country in the world recruits and employs ESL teachers to live and teach English abroad. Whether you wish to travel to Beijing or Buenos Aires, being a CELTA-qualified teacher is your ticket to travel and explore the many different cultures that make up this diverse planet.
Rest assured that whether you decide to teach English in the U.S. or abroad, once you have your CELTA certification there will be a multitude of jobs available to you.
