Delta Module 1: Distance E-Learning
Teaching House runs an online Delta Module One preparation course. This course prepares candidates to take the Delta Module One exam in either June or December.
The course is ten weeks long and is computer based so all participants must have reliable and regular access to the Internet. Participants log on to the Teaching House Delta site at least three times a week and the estimated weekly workload is roughly 8-10 hours.
Each course has a maximum of 12 trainees. As the CELTA is a prerequisite for our Delta program, course dynamics are built on a common understanding of key concepts provided during the CELTA.
The course involves an extensive amount of reading, various online individual and group activities, and completion of real test items and mock exams of the full test. There is continuous tutor support and group participant interaction.

- Relative terminology
- Brief background to the history of ESL methodology
- How languages are learned
- Basic second language acquisition theory
- Course book and reference book materials analysis
- Learner errors and L1 interference
Examination Preparation Content
- Breakdown of tasks on the two papers
- Test preparation on individual test items
- Exam taking strategies
- Two full mock tests
After the initial orientation component of the course which provides an opportunity for participants to meet each other and gain an understanding of the tools of the online learning format, the course is divided into two sections: The Study Mode which teaches the content and the Exam Practice Mode which provides the necessary exam practice.
The weekly workload varies according to individuals and for specific tasks. Our estimation of 8-10 hours of work a week is a guide, but some weeks will involve more work. As a weekly breakdown guide:
Study Mode Exam: About 6 hours/week
Practice Mode: About 4 hours/week
