Accommodation Options in New York City

The two most popular options for our studens are the Morningside Heights Residence, 92nd St YMCA de Hirsch Residence on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the Amsterdam Residence on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and the Greenpoint YMCA in Brooklyn. See below for more information:

The Manhattan School of Music Residence

Teaching House now has rooms available at the Morningside Heights Residence adjacent to Columbia University. There are 3 floors available with single and double rooms, each with a private phone line and Ethernet connections. These deluxe rooms are brand new with the option of renting a refrigerator, and each have a dresser, desk, and chair. The Residence also has a gym, coin-operated laundry and dryer machines, and 24-hour security on staff.

We offer a special student discount of $1668 for 28 nights for a single and $1156 for a double per person.

The MSH Residence is located right next to the 116th Street stop on the 1 Train, and the commute to Teaching House is 35-40 minutes door to door.

The de Hirsch Residence at 92nd St Y

Located at 1395 Lexington Ave at 92nd Street, the 92Y is a hub of cultural activity. With guest lectures from the world's leaders in politics, media, and art, as well as unrivaled gym, music, and art facilities, the 92Y is truly an East Side hotspot. And the de Hirsch Residence is one of the proud organization's services.

Offering dormitory-style housing in single and double rooms, as well as community bathrooms and kitchens, the de Hirsch Residence is a perfect place to stay for our students. In addition to a room, as a resident you have access to the 92Y library as well as reduced fees for its facilities and events.

To get to Teaching House (101 Murray Street) from the de Hirsch Residence, simply take the 4 or 5 trains to Fulton Street (a trip of approximately 30 minutes, including walking time).

Rooms at the de Hirsch Residence are priced between $1350-$1750 (depending on room type) for 28 nights.

The Amsterdam Residence

Our new residential option is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, just a short walk from Central Park, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center (home to the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, and the New York Philharmonic), and endless options for shopping and dining.

Single and double rooms are available in this dormitory-style building, all air-conditioned and equipped with their own refrigerator, sink, desk, and chair. Single-sex bathrooms are shared and cleaned daily, and showers are located on every floor. The Amsterdam Residence has a large lounge with high speed Internet (WiFi will be installed later this year), a TV, and a fully-operational kitchen with stoves and microwave ovens. The building also has coin operated washing machines and dryers, as well as 24-hour security. Best of all, the residence is located next to a Metro Subway stop and the commute to Teaching Houseis a mere 20 minutes door to door!

The cost of a single room at the Amsterdam Residence is $1,220 and a double is $1060 (per person) for 28 nights. All bookings may be made through Teaching House for the student discount rate.
