Sharon hails from the lovely tropical isle of Singapore. Growing up in a multi-cultural society, her professional experiences working with different nationalities from across Asia spurred her to teaching beyond the shores of Singapore. She has fond memories of Singapore but she always felt she needed to be elsewhere. Little did she know that when she came to New York in the fall of 2005 that New York was to be her new home.
Her travels have taken her to many different places some of which include; London, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bali, Mumbai, New Delhi, Jamaica and many different cities in the U.S.
Sharon has been in the education field for over 12 years and has been teaching English to adults for over 5 years. She has taught English to pre-school children, secondary school youngsters, and GCSE preparation courses. She has also taught adults as “young” as 60 at a Community English Program at Teachers College here in New York City and has had students from all over the world in her classes! Her most recent teaching experience includes teaching academic English and preparing students for the TOEFL at a DePaul University in Chicago. She has also had the opportunity to work with international professionals residing in the U.S., including professionals from the Bank of Beijing while on a work-study program with the University of Chicago at Illinois.
An avid shopper and bargain hunter, when Sharon is not in the classroom, she enjoys catching up on reading, watching movies and exploring all that New York City has to offer!
Sharon has a B.Ed. in Education (ECE) from the University of South Australia, a Trinity College Cert in TESOL, and a Master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Columbia University, Teachers College.
