Originally from beautiful Cleveland, Ohio, Robert has been teaching ESL for over a decade. Robert began his ESL teaching career as a volunteer, working with recently arrived Latino immigrants on Cleveland's West Side. At that time, Robert was a certified high school Social Studies teacher, possessing a strong interest in world history, cultural studies and education. Robert found the ESL classroom to be a place of pragmatic learning, creativity and cultural diversity. When offered an opportunity to teach in South Korea, he jumped at the chance to pursue teaching ESL in an international setting. After completing a year of work in Korea, Robert continued his ESL career in Morocco, Spain, and Turkey. Along the way, in order to enhance his teaching ability, Robert enrolled in a Trinity Certification program in Barcelona, Spain. Upon returning to the United States, Robert attended Fordham University, where he completed a Masters of Science in Adult TESOL. After graduation, he continued to build his professional experiences in New York City, both at a private English school, as well as in higher education, before arriving at the doors of Teaching House.
Robert has been involved in a wide variety of ESL classrooms, including- but not limited to - General English, Business, Young Learners, TOEFL preparation, and pronunciation. He finds that the curiosity and motivation of students help him to maintain a passion for this work and an ongoing desire to contribute to the profession of ESL. When not in the classroom. Robert enjoys traveling, eating delicious slices of NYC pizza, watching movies with his film club, and participating in various sports.
