Peter has been teaching for 19 years and has recently returned home to New York after spending 13 years teaching English in Prague, Vienna and Rome. He has taught in a variety of situations including General English, Business English, test preparation (TOEFL, CAE, FCE, IELTS), and at the university level. In addition, he has also served as Director of Studies at a Rome-based Business English school and the Director of 2 university English language programs. Peter arrived in Prague on a 3-month contract as a TEFL certificate trainer for a small San Francisco-based school and ended up staying for 3 years. He was able to experience an amazing time when Prague was just opening its doors after the Velvet Revolution. He was able to delve into the rich culture of The Czech Republic—its music, food, theater, and beer! With Italy remaining as a goal, Peter started working for a Business English school with centers throughout Europe. He worked for that school in Prague, transferred as a Senior Teacher to their Vienna-based school (2 years), and finally to the Rome school as the Director of Studies. Finally in Italy, Peter was able to meet relatives in Bologna, find his grandfather’s small hometown of Ginosa, check out the small hill town with his family name, obtain his dual Italian/American citizenship, and visit many times the incredible city which is Venice.
Peter holds a Cambridge Diploma in Business English teaching and a Masters in TESOL from New York’s The New School University. He also served as the editor for the English language translation of Vitaliano Brancanti’s Don Giovanni in Sicily.
Peter also has an extensive background in theater and film, having performed in New York, San Francisco and eventually during his stay in Europe. In Prague, he was featured in a grade B action feature film (“Hostage Train”) which premiered at the Prague Film Festival, appeared in a major TV commercial, and had the privilege of performing the main role in the play The Memorandum, written by the then president Vaclav Havel which was performed for him on his birthday. In Rome, Peter performed in several English-language theater productions and shot a TV commercial directed by Spike Lee at the famed Cinecitta film studios.
