  • The ‘A’ in CELTA stands for ‘adults.' Does that prevent me from teaching children?

Yes, the “A” stands for adults, but when you finish the course you’ll be able to teach English to children, too, as many of the skills and techniques you learn on the course are transferable.

There is such a strong market abroad for younger learner classes that most teachers will teach them at some point, and many of our graduates go on to specialize in working with younger learners.

  • Can I work in the United States with my CELTA?

Yes. The CELTA is the most highly regarded TESOL Certification for working in a private language school in the US and many schools will not consider recruiting teachers who haven’t completed their CELTA. Outside of language schools, our graduates find work in the US with organizations working with immigrants, community centers and in universities. Whether you're looking for work in the US or abroad, you will often see CELTA listed as the preferred or only accepted qualification on job advertisements.

  • Can I talk to a trainer before I start the course?

Absolutely. A time will be arranged for you to talk to one of our CELTA trainers during the application process. During this time you will be able to ask any questions you have about the CELTA course, our centers or about teaching English around the world.

You'll get great insights from our trainers as they have taught all over the world!

  • Can I take the course part time?

Yes. At Teaching House, we offer a part-time CELTA course. The course runs over 10 weeks - two evenings a week and Saturdays.

Not all of our centers offer the part-time course. See the course dates page for the next part-time start date and locations, or contact us to enquire about upcoming part-time courses.

  • How important is it to know English grammar?

If you’re teaching a grammar lesson and a student asks you why one tense is right and another is wrong, you need to be able to explain it in a way that the student understands.

This does not mean that you need to be a grammar wiz before you begin the course. We will teach you how to analyze grammar and how to present it in a way that a student can understand and learn from it.

  • How early do I need to apply for a course?

Our courses are in high demand and we recommend getting the application process started as soon as possible. We are able to accept applications up to one year before your chosen course dates, so if you’re interested in doing the course, it is worth applying for the course today.

As a general, courses are full about six weeks before the start date, though occasionally we have a place available the week before a course starts, so it's always worth checking.
